Julia Newbury

MSW, LCSW, Founder & Owner

Julia has a way of making people exhale. With more than a decade of experience supporting teens, adults, and families, she offers a warm, steady presence for anyone carrying something heavy or trying to reconnect with themselves. Her style is grounding, honest, and deeply collaborative — a space where you don’t have to have the “right words,” just the willingness to show up as you are.

  • Julia’s approach is equal parts practical and deeply human. Her clients describe her as someone who listens with intention, reflects with honesty, and isn’t afraid to gently challenge you when you’re ready for it.

With experience spanning children, teens, young adults, and adults, she’s especially passionate about supporting people moving through life transitions — starting college, changing careers, navigating relational shifts, healing old wounds, or working through seasons of loss or growth.

Julia often blends her clinical expertise (including training in anxiety treatment, and intuitive eating) with a warm, relational style that helps clients feel both supported and empowered. She believes therapy works best when you can show up as you are — no pressure, no masks, no need to have everything figured out.

Portrait of Jacob Nathan, licensed social worker and associate counselor at Newbury Counseling in Chicago.

Jacob Nathan

msw, Lsw, Associate therapist

Jacob meets clients with equal parts compassion and practicality. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, perfectionism, relationship patterns, or the pressure to keep your life “together,” he brings a thoughtful, down-to-earth approach that helps people feel understood without feeling judged. As a former college athlete, he also understands high expectations — on and off the field — and works with clients who want both insight and real-world strategies they can use right away.

  • Jacob’s style blends gentle curiosity with a solution-focused mindset. As a former two-sport college athlete, he understands the pressure to perform — on the field, in the classroom, at work, and in relationships. He works especially well with college students and young adults who are managing high expectations, perfectionism, or the weight of trying to “keep it together.”

In the room, Jacob is easy to talk to. He balances reflective insight with practical strategies, pulling from CBT, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, ACT, and strengths-based approaches. Whether you’re seeking clarity, coping skills, or space to understand yourself more deeply, Jacob offers a therapeutic environment that feels supportive, structured, and genuinely human.

Headshot of Abigail Serafin, senior therapist at Newbury Counseling, offering support in Chicago.

Abigail Serafin

MSW, LCSW, SENIOR THERAPIST

Abigail brings a calm, grounding presence to the therapy room. She supports teens, adults, and couples who are exploring identity, healing from trauma, navigating transitions, or working to strengthen their relationships. With a style rooted in curiosity, connection, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience, she helps clients move toward a life that feels more authentic, empowered, and aligned with who they’re becoming.

  • Abigail approaches therapy with curiosity, empathy, and a belief that healing happens in relationship. She understands the complex ways identity, environment, culture, and systemic factors shape mental health — and she holds space for all of it.

Her work often weaves together somatic awareness, mindfulness, relational therapy, DBT, Imago, and IFS. With individuals, she supports people navigating trauma, anxiety, boundaries, identity, and self-trust. With couples, she helps partners strengthen communication, repair ruptures, deepen connection, and navigate hard conversations with more compassion and clarity.

Clients appreciate Abigail’s ability to hold both gentleness and honesty — a space where you can breathe, explore, and feel genuinely supported.
